I draw, paint and make etchings, this is how I relate, celebrate, and enjoy the natural world around me. It defines me. When I am working, the intimacy between the pencil, the paint brush, the etching needle and the subject matter becomes a world of my own. A world of quiet focus and pure enjoyment, not only for what I am doing, but what I have the good fortune of being able to study or observe. A world full of beautiful and wonderful things to celebrate. By taking what is a familiar and sometimes taken for granted, I try to describe the detail within it, and communicate something new for a fresh response.
All my life I have drawn, when I was forty I went to university and studied Illustration and visual communication and then onto studying Printmaking, in particular etching, and then onto Botanical and Ornithological painting. I feel all of these interests are complimentary to each other, I now know what I want to be when I grow up!
