As a printmaker I am interested in exploring the principles of traditional printmaking techniques and adapting them using modern, environmentally sustainable materials which can make the process so much more accessible.
My etchings are made in a traditional way but using acrylic based and easy to use products, no nitric acid and expensive extraction equipment for me!
The majority of my etchings are images of trees, I love trees as much as birds and plants. I think the etching process suits trees and the art of a visual description. An etching is an Intaglio printmaking technique (pronounced/ntaeli.o/in-TAL-ee-oh) an Italian word translating as (in-into, tagliare-to cut) incising the drawing into a surface.
Incising into a copper or zinc plate means the image can be hand inked and printed many times, all individually hand made. Each print from the edition is of a limited number and while the prints are all the same, each one remains just that little bit individual.
